Brooklyn Bridge Pier 2
As part of the revitalization of Brooklyn’s waterfront, a series of piers have been reimagined with various public purposes, linked by a new parkscape by Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates.
Pier 2 has been reborn as a sports and fitness park containing a variety of basketball courts, squash courts, fitness equipment, a roller rink, and an area of turf for soccer and football practice.
A simple architecture of shed roofs with skylights running down the peak are used to provide some protection from the elements, and frame views back to the skyline of lower Manhattan.
I photographed the pier in 2016 capturing life over the course of one day along the waterfront.
