Jackman Law Building, University of Toronto

Sitting at the northwest curve of Queen’s Park Circle, the Jackman Law Building occupies an important site in the city. Bringing together previously disparate parts of the Faculty of Law under one roof, the building has emerged as a social hub on campus, centred around the atrium at the heart of the building. This gathering space, a node along students’ paths from the Philosopher’s Walk to nearby public transit, provides informal space for students to study and socialize.

The curved volume hugs the street edge facing Queen’s Park, while a rectilinear mass containing the law library sits within the forested landscape beyond.

Completed in 2016, the project has been widely published - I was commissioned to rephotograph the building to capture student life and the mature landscape in 2023.
