Conestoga College E Wing Life Science Labs

This project is a major renovation to the college’s life science labs, and includes a variety of teaching and research labs.

Reorganizing the dark, isolated labs in order to provide light and views out to tree canopy beyond required the introduction of interior glazing. Windows between labs and onto adjacent corridors are key components to make visible the work that had previously only happened behind closed doors.

The labs are built to Canadian Biosafety level 2 standards, designed for the physical containment of areas handling and manipulating human pathogens and toxins.

Photographed in summer 2023, the images aim to highlight these moments of view and transparency between the labs and the surrounding social spaces, including pops of colour, and bold graphic elements that imbue the renovated lab wing with a strong visual identity.
