Residence for the Sisters of St Joseph of Toronto
Completed in 2013 as a nursing home for a group of elderly nuns, the residence sits discreetly at the edge of the Don Valley Ravine, adjacent to the historic 1885 Taylor House.
The new building addresses the city with a series of vertical shading fins - weathering steel on one face, powder coated green on the opposite face; the ravine-side fronts onto a lush landscape of gardens, and the forested valley beyond.
Photographed several years after completion, I revisited the residence in 2020 and 2021 to photograph the project within its mature landscape, in summer, fall, and winter.
Interior views depict the many custom elements including lighting, furniture, and liturgical pieces.
