Boston Avenue Renovation

Toronto’s east-end is full of narrow semi-detached homes that are typically long, narrow and as a result often have interiors that feel dark and disconnected from nature. Tasked with a major renovation, Wanda Ely Architect reconfigured this semi to create a private refuge for a well-traveled couple who both work from home.

Particular thought was given to how the interior registers the changing qualities of light over the course of the day – soft east light in the morning and dappled light through the afternoon gives way to a cozy glow from the west in the evening.

The photographs aim to capture these varied qualities of light, paying attention to the subtle shifts in intensity and hue.
