M.O.R.E. Cabin

An hour north of Ottawa in the Gatineau Hills, a tiny off-the-grid cabin is perched 30m above the steep slope below, overlooking Lac du Brochet.

The product of engineering determination (the CLT structure is anchored in only two points) and a creative interpretation of zoning bylaws, the remarkable structure leaves a very light imprint on the surrounding landscape, while affording incredible views over the lake and forest.

The photos seek to emphasize the cabin’s delicate footprint on the landscape while contrasting the strength of its angular silhouette against the surrounding forest.

The cabin was photographed in early fall 2021 and winter 2022.
