Tommy Thompson Park Entry Pavilion

At the base of the Leslie Street, an irregular peninsula stretching 5 kilometres into Lake Ontario was made over several decades of lake-filling (including excavation from Toronto's subway and many office towers) now colloquially known as the Leslie Spit and Tommy Thompson Park.

The infill of concrete, dirt and bricks has naturalized over time and now serves as important shoreline habitat for birds and other wildlife.

The entry pavilion marks the front door of the park with a simple gesture - an elegant corten cantilevered roof supported by walls of chiselled concrete and gabion baskets containing reclaimed bricks from the Spit.

This project was shot in spring 2021, and has been awarded an OAA Design Excellence Award, a Toronto Urban Design Award, and an Ontario Concrete Award.
