Ace Toronto

Toronto's long awaited Ace Hotel opened in 2022 and has been widely published since.

These images were made over the spring and summer seasons of 2022, with the intention of capturing the project in its raw architectural state, prior to the installation of furniture and decor.

As one of Shim-Sutcliffe’s larger-scale public projects, the lobby bar and restaurant below are already becoming much-loved urban rooms within the city, affording visitors a comfortable place to sit and socialize with views over the adjacent St. Andrews Playground Park.

The hotel is the first purpose-built hotel for the Ace, yet the structure is imbued with material and tectonic references to the traditional industrial architecture of the garment district such that a visitor could easily believe the building had been on the site for much longer. This is an architecture of solidity and depth; a stark contrast to the thin glass window-wall contemporary buildings of the surrounding neighbourhood.

The project has been published widely including in: The Plan Magazine, Azure, Canadian Architect, Frame Magazine, Wallpaper, and many others.
